Danny Reagan was the center of the Blue Bloods season 13 finale. The character reunited with his former partner, Jackie (Jennifer Esposito), which not only brought him back to his early days on the force but reaffirmed that he was where he wanted to be, in the present, with his current partner, Baez (Marisa Ramirez).
It was a quietly important episode for Danny, and suggested that he’s undergoing some major points of maturation heading into season 14. That’s the thing, though: is he coming back for season 14? There’s been talks of CBS making budget cuts on Blue Bloods, so fans may be wondering if the character will be part of what gets cut.
Is Danny Reagan returning to Blue Bloods?
Fortunately, that is not the case. Danny, and the actor, who plays him, Donnie Wahlberg, are going to be coming back and spearheading stories in season 14. In fact, Wahlberg, along with the rest of the main cast, took a salary cut so that the various crew members who work on the show can still keep their jobs. Deadline broke the news of this charitable act at the same time they broke news of the show’s renewal.
Wahlberg is in it for the long haul, and he’s not shy about his desire to stick with the franchise as long as the fans tune in. He even revealed that he made a pact with the other stars of the show, Tom Selleck and Bridget Moynahan, that they would stick around until Blue Bloods was cancelled.
“I don’t know how many seasons the studio and network will make the show,” Wahlberg revealed to TV Insider. “But I can say that I made a commitment to Tom and Bridget in Season 1 that I was with them as long as they wanted to go.”
Not only that, but the actor is excited for where his character will go next, particularly with Baez. “[The finale] certainly opens the door for Danny and Baez, but all I know is that they will bond at much deeper levels than they ever had,” he teased.
