When news first broke that Farmer Andrew and Claire Saunders had cancelled their upcoming wedding – audiences were shocked. The announcement, made by Claire via Instagram, came as a complete surprise to audiences who had followed the couple’s wedding plans following their happy ending on the 2023 season of Farmer Wants a Wife.
And whilst the wedding may still be off, Claire has broken her silence on the situation, leading many to believe the pair’s love story isn’t quite over.
After sharing a photo of her new job in the NT, Claire responded to a fan telling her they really hoped she and Andrew could “work through things.”
“Thank you,” she replied in the comment section of her Instagram post. “We are both okay and I’m only in Darwin for a couple of months. Heading back to the farm after the racing carnival finishes.”
“We are okay,” she confirmed in another reply.
The comment gave fans hope that the couple may still be together – especially since Claire’s initial announcement only referenced that pair’s wedding, not their relationship status.
“My dogs and I have headed north to Darwin to work for the dry season,” Claire, who moved to Farmer Andrew’s farm in Narromine shortly after leaving the show together wrote on Instagram in early July. “Andrew and I have had to cancel our wedding due to reasons out of our control, but we are both okay.”
“I’m not sure what else to say other than, sometimes life is hard and we all just need a little breathing space,” she continued. “There will be no farming content from me for the foreseeable future.”
News of the couple’s postponed nuptials came as a shock to fans since Claire made the announcement just days after sharing with her Instagram followers that she had chosen her wedding dress, At this stage, Farmer Andrew has not made any comment.
Although the couple themselves remain elusive to the situation, a fellow FWAW co-star anonymously shared details with Yahoo Lifestyle, confirming to the publication that despite calling off their nuptials, Andrew and Claire have not completely split.
“Last I heard, they’re technically still together, but taking time apart and having a break,” they shared, adding that the couple had “fallen off the radar” in early 2024.
While the exact details of their break are unknown, the co-star revealed that the decision to call off their wedding was allegedly “led by Andrew,” and that Claire is “pretty upset.”
The couple first announced their engagement in March 2023, just as they celebrated their first anniversary together.
The pair left the 2023 season of Farmer Wants a Wife Australia early, after Andrew decided to send the remaining girls home, telling Woman’s Day in a sit-down interview shortly after their exit that they would be taking it “one day at a time.”
“We have a nice positive thing going here and it is good to finally get to show the world our happiness,” Claire, told the publication at the time, before adding that the pair have already discussed having children.
“It would be nice to have twins first up and then see what would happen after that,” Claire explained.
“We’re approaching it with the mindset of, let’s enjoy one another first for a period of time and make memories of our own, and if things keep evolving in a positive manner, then that’ll come,” Andrew added.
