General Hospital Spoilers: Is General Hospital Being Irresponsible With The Sasha Storyline?

Over the years, General Hospital Spoilers has told a lot of stories that are pertinent to society. BJ (Brighton Hertford), the daughter of Bobbie Spencer (Jackie Zeman), was struck by a drunk motorist in 1994. B.J. suffered a brain death in a school bus accident. Tony Jones (Brad Maule), Bobbie’s husband, made the decision to remove BJ’s life support. originally, Tony donated her heart to Maxie Jones, BJ’s cousin (who was originally portrayed by Robyn Richards).

The authors used genuine emotion and heart to tell the plot in a socially appropriate way. Additionally, Stone Cates (Michael Sutton) had an AIDS diagnosis in 1994.

He was Robin Scorpio’s boyfriend (Kimberly McCullough) and Sonny Corinthos’s (Maurice Benard) best friend. Once again, the story was powerful and was told meaningfully. It educated viewers and expressed the truth.

We, the viewers, saw performances and writing of the highest caliber. The show made responsible choices about how they told the story, which was very real.

It may have been one of General Hospital’s best times. Claire Lebine was the head writer, and she ensured the writing was worthy of the cause they were portraying.

Sasha’s Story is Irresponsible

Time travel to 2023, when we observe Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson) going through a difficult time in a psychiatric hospital. Sasha was wrongfully taken to Ferncliff by an unethical psychiatrist who then destroyed her mental health on purpose in order to make quick money.

Sofia is undoubtedly killing it with her stellar performance. However, this plotline might give the audience a foul taste in their mouth.

Maurice Benard is very outspoken about his views on mental health and the value of getting help when needed.

It disgusts me to think that any doctor with a psychology degree would purposefully put their patient in risk.

The show is simply going too far with the Sasha storyline. We are still watching her being tortured and unnecessarily injected with God knows what as she screams for her psychiatrist to stop drugging her.

It is a terrible thing to watch. General Hospital may have missed a chance to tell a socially relevant story about Sasha in which she overcomes her struggles in a responsible and empowering way.

Even if Sasha’s storyline had to go this route, they didn’t need to put poor Sasha in a mental institution.

Now, we watch Cody Bell (Josh Kelly) sneak in to see Sasha in a psych hospital where he shouldn’t be allowed to enter Sasha’s room.

Operation Get Her Out of There

She doesn’t belong in a psychiatric facility to begin with, therefore the only consolation is if he can free her.

But that is a totally different matter. Not to mention that Gladys Corbin (Bonnie Burroughs), who victimized Sasha, deserves to be held accountable.

It’s been hard to see her take advantage of someone with a compromised mental condition when she’s supposed to be family.

Back then, General Hospital was the only soap opera you could rely on to tell a genuine, socially conscious tale. It did so with a lot of grace and elegance.

Hopefully some authors are aware of this and work quickly to correct what they can.
