NCIS’ Michael Weatherly has got fans excited yet again as he states there is “unfinished” business for Tony DiNozzo.

NCIS star Michael Weatherly has teased a comeback yet again for Tony DiNozzo as he states his story is “unfinished”.

Charming movie fanatic Tony DiNozzo was a fan-favourite in the CBS police procedural from the very beginning until his heartbreaking exit in 2016.

He was informed Agent Ziva David (played by Cote de Pablo), his colleague and woman he loved, had been killed in Israel and left behind their daughter Tali whom he didn’t know about.

So he left his days at NCIS behind for a new life in Paris and fans were over the moon when it was discovered Ziva was alive and she joined her loved ones at the end of series 17.

Neither Tony nor Ziva have been seen since, however, actor Michael has now made his position on a comeback very clear.

On X/Twitter, a fan questioned which was his favourite character to play, DiNozzo or Jason Bull in CBS’ legal drama Bull.

Initially, the 55-year-old teased: “I suppose you leave out Logan Cale on purpose” with a winking face, cheekily referring to his earlier role in Dark Angel.

What has really got fans talking is his follow-up response: “There will be more DiNozzo someday, because he is the one character that felt unfinished…that’s my plan! We shall see…”

Naturally, NCIS viewers were thrilled with his reply and reacted accordingly on social media.

An X user wrote: “Something for your fans to look forward to, bless you.”

Another said: “Sounds like a great plan to see what Very Special Agent Tony Dinozzo has been up to. Look forward to that day.”

Agreeing with fellow fans, a third commented: “Mr. Weatherly aka DiNozzo would really love to see you back on board.

“Your character would really bring NCIS back to life. Yes, you and Gibbs made NCIS what it was.”

While another added: “I very much want Tony back!

“In fact, my friends would always check up on Tony and Abby, like we knew them. I’ve watched every episode. Some more than once!

“I felt like they were my friends! Please reprise his role.”

This isn’t the first time Weatherly has hinted at a possible return to NCIS either.

Last year, he posted a picture of him re-enacting the unforgettable “DiNozzo/Gibbs slap” with a friend, a moment fans loved between DiNozzo and Agent Leroy Gibbs (Mark Harmon).

And when a fan wrote on X that they would love to see Tony and Ziva back in the show, he replied: “Stay tuned…for this might be an interesting year for such moments!”

As of yet, there has been no official confirmation regarding a comeback but it appears Weatherly is keen to return to the NCIS set.

NCIS season 21 premieres on Monday, January 12, on CBS.
