The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live executive producer Scott Gimple offers an ominous tease for episodes 5 and 6 as the spinoff comes to a close.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live executive producer and showrunner Scott Gimple has offered an ominous tease for episodes 5 and 6 of the show. Episode 4 ended with Rick and Michonne reconciling their relationship, with the former finally agreeing to go back home. The pair manage to escape with a car full of fuel, and the CRM seemingly unaware that they are still alive.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Gimple offered a cryptic tease of what to expect in upcoming The Ones Who Live episodes. The showrunner joked that everything was going to be fine before revealing “stuff happens” that could put a dent in the duo’s plans to return home. Check out what Gimple had to say below:

They get home and everything’s great! It was very weird to do those last two episodes because everything’s fine after that. There are no problems. No, I guess I can spoil that they aren’t able to just immediately go off into the sunset. Stuff happens. They have really achieved something in this episode between the two of them, but I don’t know if the world is going to let them hold onto it.

How Will The Ones Who Live Really End?

Episode 4 ended with Rick finally confessing to Michonne how scared he was that he would lose her again, saying he wouldn’t survive if something were to happen to her. He also revealed he was still thinking of Carl’s death in The Walking Dead, unable to remember his face after so many years. However, Michonne gives him a phone carving of his son, prompting him to decide to escape with her now that the CRM likely thinks they’re dead.

Although episode 4 ends on a happy note, Gimple’s tease of what’s to come indicates this state of bliss won’t last forever. The trailer for episode 5 already hints at Rick and Michonne running into trouble on the road, including new survivors and someone chasing them down. It appears their conflict with the militarized group is far from over, which could prompt them not to return home, so the CRM doesn’t find Alexandria.

Instead of running, it’s possible Rick and Michonne decide to take the fight to the CRM, causing significant damage to the group to ensure they aren’t followed home. This could have to do with the Summit being held between major leaders of the organization, possibly giving them the perfect place to strike. With only two episodes left and more danger to come, The Ones Who Live could have any number of endings for its main duo.
