History’s “The Curse of Oak Island” just wrapped up its ninth season on May 3, capping off nearly a decade of captivating treasure hunts and archaeological finds, which came courtesy of the Lagina Brothers — Marty and Rick — and their talented teams of experts and local diggers. Many fans are probably now wondering what will happen next with the long-running series, or what TV show they should start watching now that Season 9 is over. Well, you don’t have to dig deep, because History just rolled out another popular program last week that is perfect for those who love “Curse of Oak Island.”
As of right now, it doesn’t appear that the Nova Scotia-based series has been renewed for a tenth season yet (via Monsters and Critics). Its production has reportedly been hit by a number of setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other things, such as a government ban on digging in the swamp area of Oak Island following the discovery of locally protected artifacts. So who knows if History wants to continue going through the trouble of another season. But fans need not fret, because the network’s got you covered.
The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch is a UFO-hunting series that is perfect for Curse of Oak Island fans
Now in its third season, “The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch” is the perfect follow-up show to watch now that “The Curse of Oak Island” fans can’t get their treasure hunting fix for the time being. It’s basically an eerie alien and paranormal-focused version of “Curse of Oak Island,” with its cast swapping out treasure and local artifacts for proof of extraterrestrials and various otherworldly things, like alternate dimensions. An official description posted with a trailer for Season 3, which debuted on May 3, reads: “With full, unprecedented access to one of the most infamous and secretive hotspots of paranormal and UAP-related activities on earth, season three of ‘The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch’ follows the accredited team of scientists, researchers, and experts as they push their experiments beyond anything that has been done.”
Back in Season 2, astrophysicist Dr. Travis Taylor teamed up with real estate tycoon Brandon Fugal and a team of experts on the infamous Skinwalker Ranch in Ballard, Utah, to investigate alleged UFO activity and “High Strangeness” phenomena that had been reported in the area (via History). Much like Oak Island, the 512-acre property is said to hold mysteries and secrets that can be unearthed with special UFO-hunting technology and other search methods. “As the team returns for their third year to investigate the high strangeness of Skinwalker Ranch, they find new evidence of a mysterious anomaly in the sky one mile above the Triangle Area that may be connected to something deep within the Mesa,” a description reads on History.com.
